Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham are all closer to Bangor than Cardiff. No flights direct from Liverpool though. Manchester is an option with either Jet 2 or Ryanair. However apart from Tuesdays, Thursdays an Saturdays both airlines leave at 0700 & 0600 respectively so without a car or taxi you will not be able to make the journey from Bangor unless you stay overnight.
