New Hostel in Abergavenny?

Hi folks,

There seems to be a new Hostel in Abergavenny.

yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/…index.aspx

Could someone tell me about it? Anyone stayed there? How long has it been in operation? Any experiences to share? The cost seems a little high for a hostel, higher than others anyway at 26 pounds per night per person it's comparable to some B&B's in the area.

It appears to be a converted convent having many rooms with either one or two beds. Maybe it's quite nice. I wonder what the beds are like, whether a "one bed" room would be suitable for two people sleeping together.

I'm planning to visit the area in May and considering whether I'll have any trouble finding a place to stay if I don't reserve in advance.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Ty'r Morwydd has been in operation for a considerable time as an environmental study centre, and has only become part of thhe YHA network about two yeasrs ago. I have seen the rooms and there is no way two people could sleep in a single bedded room! The advantage is that it is only five minutes walk to the centre of town and a bit further to the bus and train stations. I understand the food is good and they use locally sourced. I think the £26 includes breakfast produce.http://www.mulberrycentre.com A cheaper alternative would probably be The Black Sheep Backpackers in The Great Western Hotel, near the train station.http://www.blacksheepbackpackers.com/The average price for B&B in and around Abergavenny is £55. The Park Guest House has standard rooms (no private bathroom) from £4)5.You should be OK for accommodation If you can avoid the holiday weekends at the beginning of May, and especially the end of May (there is a steam engine rally and Celtic Spirit Music Festival in Abergavenny, also a Perry and Cider Festival nearby.)

If you contact the local Tourist Information Centre they can help with accommodation, and offer a bed booking service for £2 e-mail abergavennyic@breconbeacons.org www.visitabergavenny.co.uk
