Parking in Oxford

We will be spending a day in Oxford in August. Driving a rental car from Newbury. From reading posts it sounds like driving in the town may not be recommended (just like other college towns). May even be more difficult as we are from the US and will already be contending with the left sided thing:).

Silly question, but are there lots where we can park our rental car for the day? Once parked, I am guessing getting around isn't too difficult (taxi, bus, walk....).

Use one of the Park and Rides. You park the car and catch the bus into the city centre. Coming from Newbury the Redbridge P&R is best, or maybe Seacourt. Definitely not a good idea to drive right into town!

See link for details of parking charges and bus fares.

As everyone will tell you, Oxford is a Medieval town entirely unsuited for driving and it is actively discouraged. Long term parking is virtually non-existent. The good news is that for precisely that reason, the Park-and-Ride scheme works well for visitors and as angie47 says, that is what you should use.

I agree, use the Park and Ride as even though you can park for as long as you like in the Multi storey car park it costs a fortune.
