scenic route suggestions

We will be driving from Conwy to Huby (near Leeds) in May next year in one day. Rather than driving the most direct route via the ring road around Manchester, we want to find a more scenic route through the Peak District. We are looking for suggestions on the most scenic route to take and short stops we could make. A quaint village to stop for morning tea and somewhere further on to stop for a short scenic walk (1-2 miles return) followed by a picnic would be ideal. We are not interested in the old houses or caves I have read about in the area.

You could take the A537 from Knutsford and through Macclesfield. This road goes past the Cat & Fiddle Inn and then turns into the A54 to Buxton.

You could then head north through Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and Holmfirth.

I would agree with Matt that the route via Buxton would be a good idea - Knutsford might be a good place to stop for morning tea.

On the way to Buxton (just past the Cat & Fiddle) is the turning for the Goyt Valley which is a valley (and reservoir) which is often overlooked by tourists - see http://www.goytvalley.co.uk . The other alternative might be to head slightly further south to the Roaches which is another scenic location that many tourists miss seeing: http://www.roaches.org.uk .

To get to Leeds from Buxton, you might also want to consider heading towards the M1 at Chesterfield - either via Monsal Dale (another possible place for a walk) then Tideswell, or along the A6 then through Ashford in the Water.

We know Huby near Harrogate with a Leeds postcode.

If you want a long route via the Peak then the above postings are useful.

What time are you proposing to leave Conway?

Chester is also a possible reasonable stop for morning tea/coffee if you can find parking and relax.

Your route through the wonderful Peak Disrict for a walk and picnic is a considerable diversion for a day's drive to the south of your target destination.

You could enjoy the Peak and stop overnight on this planned leg.

Do you only have a day hours' driving from Wales to Huby in North Yorkshire.?

Your preferred driving route is with breaks which would take time off route to enjoy and justify recommendations.
