Pretty towns north of York?

Staying at the excellent Hampton by Hilton in York and have had three glorious days in this beautiful city.

Today we would like to drive North and see some of the North Yorkshire countryside.

We will call into Benningborough Hall near Skipton and would be grateful for any ideas on pretty towns and villages where we could stop for coffee and then lunch.

Thanks

Glad you had a good experience at The Tiger, which I recommended. Good to know that they are still as good as I remember.

You're right about the number of York pubs - I live here and find there's never enough time !!

Still - give's you an excuse to come back...

Next time you visit Otley, try The Roebuck http://www.roebuckpub.co.uk/ & also the The Fleece http://www.fleece-otley.co.uk/ Both great pubs & food, and if you want a proper real ale (unfortuantely or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it!) no kids under the age of 18, there's the Old Cock. Tiny place, no beer garden, but good well kept beer http://theoldcockotley.co.uk/

Helmsley is a very pretty market town .and 2 miles down the road is the Star at Harome. . You could come up the York to Helmsley road think it is B1248 ? then return after you had eaten Harome ,Nunnington , Hovingham -where the Duchess of Kent was brought up as a child. Head towards Malton next village Slingsby turn there for Castle Howard -pass by CH and on to join the A64 back to York
