We don't have a spring break as you know it. In the easter holidays, lots of people go abroad for some much needed sunshine or for a a city break, others take breaks within the UK - popular places include seaside resorts, the west country (Devon/Cornwall) and scenic areas such as the Lake and Peak districts further North. It's very varied...

The Easter Bank Holiday weekend represents the end of the winter - irrespective of the weather conditions - reinforced by the clocks changing.

People either fly out (hence the Heathrow jams. head off to the countrside, go visit family, or maybe start some DIY.

Do-It-Yourself is a national sport - the main DIY retailers broadcast intensely on TV coming up to Easter.

In some ways we get three spring breaks: Easter plus two Bank Holidays on the first (May Day) and last (Whitsun) Mondays of May. All three weekends see jams at out of town malls and at seaside resorts.

One can also almost guarantee that, even if the weather has been glorious in the week up to Bank Holiday, it will chuck it down with rain all weekend!

I would say Devon and Cornwall are the most popular for the Easter break for Londoners.

Some of us end up doing DIY. This fairly new tradition has evolved over the last 30-40 years. What you do is work like stink through January, until Easter. Then, instead of having a rest, you go to various DIY stores with your loved one, buy stuff you don't need and then make a mess of your house, attempting to tile the bathroom, put a new sink in, etc.

If you'd like to take some photos of this great Easter tradition, I'm sure this can be arranged

Devon & Cornwall very popular. After Easter hols, D&C go quiet for a while.

May is a great time to explore D&C - hedgerows are full of wild flowers, roads ar peaceful & locals are pleased to see you in shops & restaurants - time to chat & mull over the meaning of life etc.

St Ives is great in May - you can walk in a relaxed way through the narrow streets, get in/out the craft/art shops, find a seat in the tea shops & wander on the beach.

Come August & it's HELL.....neve ever again.
