Driving out of London on a Sunday morning

We are planning to rent a car from Europcar at Victoria Station after spending the week in London. We will be touring the country starting in Bath for the next week and return the car to Heathrow prior to our flight home. Am I correct that the traffic will be very light on a Sunday and is Europcar a decent rental agency?

Traffic may be comparatively light, but there is always a fair amount in London and you could hit pockets going west if, for example, Fulham or Chelsea (soccer clubs) are playing at home that day and at that time.

None of this needs to be a problem if you are reasonably confident driving on the left etc etc

It can vary.

Early in the morning should be almost clear, and in the City it usually stays that way, but you are heading west and that seems to attract a lot of Sunday drivers who come in to shop or otherwise amuse themselves.

The other complications is that Sunday seems to be the day they close streets for building works so you can find yourself with some weird detours. And of course there is the occasional demonstration.........

You should have no problems on a Sunday morning, traffic starts to build after 11am and most of that will be coming into town.

Make sure you check the car with a fine tooth comb for pre existing damage before you set off, and that you understand the damage policy. (The attitude of all UK rental companies to damage is much much tougher than you may be used to in the US). There have been a lot of posts on here recently where customers perceive that they weren't treated fairly by Europcar.

We rented a car from Europcar to visit Lake District for 4 nights after staying in London. Left early sunday morning (before 8) and it was very quiet until we got on the freeway. Hope this helps? We found Europcar easy to deal with and there were no issues

It will be important to get a Sat Nav as that should get you out of the city without a problem, we drove out of London on a Sunday morning up to Scotland and the traffic was fairly light in London itself but when we hit the motorway it was very busy.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We are planning to drive to Salisbury on the way to Bath. Hope we don't hit too much Sunday football traffic.

Just travel at your own pace. You'll have a ball.
