36 hours in London - what to do two adults and a 6 year old

Hi,

Suggestions please on how to see as much as possible. We arrive in London on Sunday evening - staying at the pestana chelse bridge. We go home very early Tuesday morning. Two adults and a busy 6 year old.

Can you give us any idea of the type of thing you'd like to see?

Architecture?

Castle

Churches?

Markets?

Museums?

Shopping?

Parks?

Start by reading a London guidebook.

London has a lot of sights and you can't see them all in 36 hours, which is why LauraRW has asked you to be more specific about what you're interested in.

But as a starting point, your 6 year old might enjoy a ride on the upper deck of the number 15 bus - it uses the old Routemasters and goes past a number of London's attractions, starting at Trafalgar Square, past St Paul's and to the Tower of London, to name a few.

Thanks - is there any of the bus tours or river tours you would recommend above any other?

Another option for a tour would be Duck Tours. Its a tour in an amphibious vehicle that first does a tour round the streets of London, before going into the Thames for a river tour.

The London Eye would be good for seeing London as well.

The Sealife London Aquarium would be good for a child, and you wouldn't need a whole day to see it.

We didn't like Duck tours much (I guess it depends on the guide and ours wasn't very good). Also, although we went during schooll holidays and there were a lot of children on the tour, his commentary seemed far more aimed at adults. Of course, other guides may be better.

It you just want a quick ride on the river without a full tour you could take one of the regular Thames Clippers and travel for example from the London Eye (which is next to the Aquarium) to Tower Bridge.

When I went on the Duck Tours the guide was good, but I guess it can vary.

I would agree though that the commentary is more aimed at adults, but it isn't unsuitable for children.

Did the big bus tour which took almost 4 hours and was perfect as it poured rain all day

I would recommend Tower of London. Great for kiddos and adults.
