inexpensive london hotel - does it exist?? |
|
bringing my new hubby to london (he's never been to europe at all, and i lived in london, so i'm thrilled to show him around), but the only problem is that i'd forgotten how outrageous london hotel prices are, esp. when you're on a newlywed budget, as we are. ideally, i'm looking around covent garden, st. james, westminster, or west end/piccadilly/leicester areas - and we'd like to stay under $130 US per night, if possible (for six nights, if anyone knows of a weekly rate). any ideas?? doesn't have to be the dorchester, but i'd like a step up from the regent palace if possible :) thanks in advance for any and all suggestions! Hi, your budget is very limited, and none of the areas listed will be within it. You could try one of the B&B hotels in the Bloomsbury area. If you deal direct with the hotel, by email, you may be able to obtain a reasonable rate for a longer stay booked well in advance. Report as inappropriate

I know there are apt. rentals - we are staying at a bed and breakfast in bromley, kent (Hurst) at 50 pounds a night - including a full breakfast. Report as inappropriate

Check out the British Airways or Virgin Atlantic websites, they both offer some air/hotel packages that are quite reasonable depending the time of year you are traveling. As for hotels only try Bayswater, near 3 tube lines, the bus and filled with BASIC 'tourist' hotels, not that there is anything wrong with that. Also on this TripAdvisor website there are listings for London Discount Hotels. A bit more research, you should make out OK. Good Luck. Poppa Report as inappropriate

I booked the Thanet Hotel for a trip I'm taking in May, 2005. It gets great review from this site and they lowered the cost since I booked for 7 nights. A full english bkfst is included and I think the location is great, having previously lived right around the corner near British Museum. Good luck. Report as inappropriate

If you don't have a particular hotel in mind, I'd try Priceline. You just pick you location and star level and place a bid. That is what I'm trying to do for our trip in May but I haven't been successful yet. We might be travelling on busier days so that could be why we're having trouble, or it might just be too early yet. Report as inappropriate

Get yourselves a little flat in SW7 - try www.astons-apartments.com, and spend your money on fun things to do and yummy groceries from Waitrose (big one right next to Gloucester Road tube station). The prices at the website are high - I did better by booking with Travelocity. Report as inappropriate

Hi becki. You have a budget of 70 pounds a night which is pretty tight I admit. I think the areas you suggest are slightly out of your range. The Imperial Group (Tavistock and President) are about 80 pounds but with English breakfast included. The Royal Adelphi, beteen the Strand and the River sounds like a funky 'up and comer' also about 80 pounds. For your price range, I'd suggest Bayswater. I found the Central Park to be quite serviceable . Close to both Bayswater and Queensway tube stops. About 70 pounds double. Continental b'fast. Bar, Concierge, Elevators. Plain but not bad. The nearby Blakemore is well thought of in the same price range. A final thought might be the Ibis Earls Court - I think this used to be the Paragon. Ibis runs a tight ship and the place is cheap. If you put your dates in (on Expedia for example) you might find some hotels offering the 6th night free which would bring more of them into your price range. All of these spots are reviewed on TripAdvisor. Good luck. Report as inappropriate

Becki, four of our six trips have been on Virgin Atlantic vacation packages. These are packages in hotel, air and transfers only. You do your own thing. never been bummed by any hotel thy have put us in. Consider strongly. Report as inappropriate

For the price you want to spend I'd go for the Travel Inn chain - especially the Travel Inn County Hall. You can't beat the location; it's literally just yards from the London Eye and a very short walk to Waterloo Station that can be navigated even lugging suitcases. I spent a week there in 2003 and I found it very clean and sufficient for my needs, with a nice hot shower and comfy bed. Since you're going on more of a romantic visit, make sure to request a room that doesn't overlook the delivery entrance courtyard! On business it didn't bother me, but it probably would have on vacation. Report as inappropriate

Its not quite under 130 USD and not in the areas you mention but it was certainly very reasonable and we found it very convenient - the Park International Hotel - see my review titled <great value> for more information. Good luck!! Report as inappropriate
