back from Lonodn- trip report

We arrived back home yesterday from another visit to London.

We arrived on Friday 6ish pm and took the bus to Finsbury Square at 7pm. As usual budget travel to Travelodge Moorgate Central. As convinient as always. Room on the fifth floor facing the back street, so no noise and good sleep.

On that Friday we loaded our Oyster cards to go to Westminster area by tube (we were travelling with relatives visiting for the first time). We walked the area and stop for a pint in Whitehall and then back to the hotel by bus.

On Saturday we split: relatives did the museums they had planned and we spent the morning just wandering and shopping around Oxford Street (had to buy presents to take back home for the girls!!!!)

Before lunch we went to the Queen's Theatre to collect tickets for Les Mis matineé. We had a curry lunch in Leicester Square and then to the musical: BRILLIANT SHOW. We had seen it in New York and wanted to see the London show.

After the show, we met relatives at the National Gallery and walked the South Bank (under that rain...) to the Tower of London. We had lunch there and attended the Ceremony of the Keys.

Back to the hotel.

On Sunday, we started with the Spitalfields and Peticoat Lane markets. We then went to the Gherkin ("Egg House",as the girls call it), Leadenhall Market and Lloyd's.

As it was still raining, we decided to visit the National Portrait Gallery before lunch...and luckily it stopped raining after it. The Soane's Museum was closed on a Sunday, so we decided to walk the city through the Seven Dials area and got to the Wallace Collection in time for a quick visit.

We were in the mood to keep walking, so we walked across Mayfair to get to Buckingham Palace and for a stroll in St James' Park.

I know it's a very long walk, from 3 to almost 8, but we indulge in a pint at Leicester Square before heading to the hotel for dinner.

On Monday we got up to take the bus to Stansted and back home.

We had a great tiem, although it was puring most of the time. At least we had no rain on Sunday from lunch time on.

Sounds great. We have never had the opportunity to attend one because of the dates.

We didn't visit the Army Museum and the Saatchi Gallery this time as we changed plans, so we thought about them as good excuses to go back but a pub meet is another good excuse.

Sounds great!

What was Seven Dials like? It always sounds like something out of an Agatha Christie novel to me!

Seven Dials is a very lively place to walk around. Full of people on a Sunday, which is always nice if you enjoy walking and people watching.

Yes, we did...such a lovely (hidden) place!!!!! I remember the first time we went there, we didn't dare venture through one of the entrances as we thought is was a goods entrace or similar...then we walked in from the other side and left the place through "our goods entrance"...
