We are staying in a flat on Queens Gate (between the South Ken and Gloucester Road tube stops). I'd like to get some groceries delivered but need a recommendation for a place from which to order. (Anywhere I can do it on the internet before I arrive?)

Thanks!

Any of the following should be able to deliver

www.waitrose.com (through their delivery co Ocado)

www.sainsburys.co.uk

www.tesco.com. You will need the post code of the flat to enter and register and of course arrange with the flat provider for someone to take delivery if you're not there yourself. However there is a Waitrose and I believe a Sainsbury right by Gloucester Rd tube so it might be easier to pick up stuff and get a taxi to your flat.

If I could afford it, I'd choose Waitrose; more often than not I cannot afford Waitrose so I'd go for Sainsbury's. Both offer home delivery for a modest sum; www.ocado.com offers Waitrose goods as well.

www.waitrosedeliver.com or www.sainsburys.com/groceries for more info.

There's a big Waitrose just down the road at the Gloucester arcade, above the station and a huge Sainsbury's about 200m along the Cromwell Road. Bus number 74 will drop you near both (for Sainsbury's it's the second stop past Gloucester Road).

Thanks!

Does 74 go down Queens Gate? We're staying on that road...corner of there and Queens Gate Terrace...so a bit of a walk to a tube and still exporing the whole bus thing....

Since walking is an issue for your daughter, you may want to hop on the number 70 at stop RT, more or less across the road from Queens Gate Terrace. Take the 70 to South Ken station, and from there hop on the number 74 towards Putney from stop H.

If your daughter is up to walking from your flat to Cromwell Road, you can catch the number 74 on Queens Gate on the south west corner of the junction at stop GT.

If you don't think it would be too tiring for your daughter, I would suggest to shop yourself.

British supermarkets are fantastic!

You might end up spending a bit more than you would if you did your shopping from the internet, but it will be worth it!

Thank you all!

TravellerPlus, you mention something about "stop H" and "stop GT". Are these secret codes for certain stops? :) How do I identify where these stops are...are they marked on the bus map?

Thank you!!

The bus stops aren't marked on the Central London Bus Map, but they will be marked on some spider maps.

Have a look at the links below for more info:

tfl.gov.uk/tfl/…royalalberthall-12445.pdf

…wikipedia.org/wiki/…Bus_stop_-_london.svg

The latter is an exemplar rather than the real deal, but you'll see the wee letter indicator on the top of most bus stops in Central London. Temporary stops may well just have a red on white 'lollipop' sign on a pole, either fixed or free standing, saying Bus Stop - v minimalist.

Hello 3kids4me!!

We were in London last winter and stayed about 5 minutes from the Gloucester Road tube station. There is a Waitrose right at the tube station. Marks and Spencer also has a wonderful food hall in their store on Kensington - one tube stop up from Gloucester Road. There is an entrance to Marks and Spencer in the tube station and you just go downstairs to the food hall.

good luck and have a great trip!

Hello all! I'm bumping up this thread because I have an additional question.

We will be arriving at the flat fairly late at night (I would imagine around 10:00.) Are these grocery stores the 24 hour type? Are they open very late at night?

Thank you!
