I read with great interest in the local press that the Riverside hotel in Ambleside as been voted by ''''‘users’''''' ( ! ) of Trip-Adviser into the TOP 10 B&B’s in the WORLD !!!! Amazing achievement indeed, especially as this is a small, undistinguished and anonymous looking B&B, on a virtually unknown road - letting 6 less than remarkable looking bedrooms.
Now far from passing judgement, I am sure the owners are more than amiable hosts, and I would in no way like to cast aspersions as to the quality of the establishment. However, I find it a little confusing that any establishment of this size and ambiguity should receive over 250 reviews…. When compared with perhaps one of the most famous hotels in the world. The Savoy London (268 suites & letting rooms & it’s own WestEnd Theatre), who have received…………. errrr 139 reviews. !!
Perhaps it’s the cynic in me, but I smell more than a hint of sea life and bovine faecal matter when reading so called ‘independent’ reviews like this. It may very well be true, that a very large percentage of these reviews are indeed independent, but in this case I suspect it’s the source…….
