Hull - very enjoyable visit

Just got back from a long weekend in Hull.

I must say it was a very enjoyable break. Spent a nice day shopping and visiting the museums in the city centre. Well done to the council for keeping the museums free to enter. We especially enjoyed the Streetlife Transport museum. Parking costs were reasonable although we would have used the park and ride if we had been aware of it. Also had a very enjoyable drive up the coast to Hornsea.

We only went to Hull because we had an appointment in Cottingham. We travel around the UK quite a lot but had never really though of Hull as somewhere worth visiting. However we were quite impressed with the place and will definitely return within the next year or so.

I agree - Hull is an excellent place for a day or a weekend - as well as the superb museums some of the pubs are brilliant too. We try to get across there every couple of years for a weekend

Yes, we did the same a couple of years ago. A most under-rated city

Great to hear you had an enjoyable visit. The place receives a lot of bad press from people who don't take time out to see the place.

With The Deep, various festivals, the new Hull Truck Theatre and so on the place is benefiting. With further investment to make it the City of Culture there is more to come and recent news of a potential large indoor arena.

There are lots of highlights including the museums you've mentioned. The marina is a lovely place to walk around plus the riverside walk which goes for miles.

The Humber Bridge Country Park is a good resting spot.

If you go north of Cottingham you'll come to Beverley which is a wonderful market town and has a nice feel to the place.
