Holiday Inn Express Bristol North |

Hi staying here in october for a couple of days. Have read there is a pub over the road. As we staying bed and breakfast was wondering if they do decent food and how pricey, also is it far to town centre, how much in a taxi. Thanks to anyone who can help. |

If this is the one at Filton the pub is behind the hotel - I have only ever been there for a sunday lunch. I remember thinking its OK. The hotel is on a major roundabout ( on the other sides are a massive Sainsburys and Homebase, the MOD complex and a small shopping centre) and really feels "out of town" if you dont have access to a car - is there a specific reason to stay here ? I would think that a taxi into central Bristol would be around £10, this is only a guestestimate.

Hi, If you are looking to visit Bristol centre then this hotel is probably a little too far out of the city. I would think that a taxi would be the best part of £20 each way (unless you get a bus or get a train from Parkway Station [10 mins walk] down to Temple Meads in the Centre. A taxi will cost you more on a Sunday or if returning from the town after midnight. If you are going to spend that much in taxis you might as well stay nearer the town centre (try and get a deal at the Novotel or City Inn) where you won't need to get public transport and where they have free car parking. The pub is the "Fox Den" and I think from memory is part of the Innkeepers Lodge chain. Food is ok but nothing special, just typical pub stuff albeit better than some others. You could also try the Beaufort Arms (near Parkway station) for food but give the Parkway Tavern a miss unless you want a drink and the occassional punch-up... If you stay in the centre there is a massive choice of places to eat that will be better. The HI in this location is pretty much in a residential area so you are pretty limited here. If you end up spending your money travelling in and out of the centre you may as well use that to stay in a location in the centre itself. If you are visiting friends or family in north Bristol then the hotel will be fine. I hope this helps. Jon
