Travel insurance with medical conditions

Have just tried to renew our annual worldwide travel insurance policy and find that instead of £130ish previously we are now expected to pay £334!!!! admittedly we have medical problems but virtually the same as in previous years and have never been ill to the extent we can't travel and do things and have the ok to travel just occasionally have to take it a bit easy..

Has anyone any experience of medical travel insurance - in particular where they have had to make a claim as don't want a cheap policy that won't pay up if anything does go wrong?

Err, without wishing to appear rude, but large hikes in the cost of travel insurance are usually age-related. Have you just turned 70?

our family had the same problem after an op and searched a lot of medi cover sites.

Dont know how the compare now but have a look at https://www.citybond.co.uk

Quotes for your normal health either one off or annual and then purchase a seperate bond to cover the health problem of the individual

A relative of mine who has several health issues got what I think was a very fair deal through the Post Office. I phoned them on her behalf and went though a list of questions, told them all the medications she was taking, and got a decent price from them, about 1/2 to a 1/3 other companies quotes (and several flat out declined), so went ahead and bought it (did this 2 years running)

Never had to claim but if you answer everything fully I don't see why there would be an issue.

p.s I should say that this was a one-off travel insurance for a specific holiday each year and not an annual policy. No idea if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks for your help, will try them too. Seems to be the US/Carribean part thats the problem - for instance one part would cost an additional £3 if Europe only but £93 extra if expanded to include the US!!

======

When you consider that should a hospital stay be required, that £90 difference might have to fund half a million or whatever additional costs, that's perhaps not such a bad deal?

Will try these too EW, thank you.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem, or is interested, I'll report back on this thread when we are sorted.

Might be an idea to have something for travel insurance along the lines of the general area info we have for each forum now, along with feedback on how effective the policies were when claims had to be made.

Does anyone have the time to set something like this up if it seems a good idea?
