We visited Prince Edward County for the May long weekend, expecting beautiful scenery, farmer's markets, unique shops, hiking trails, parks, interesting restaurants serving tasty food with fresh ingredients and local wines. The scenery did not disappoint; everything else did.
Aside from cycling the roads connecting the towns of Prince Edward County or camping at Sandbanks, BEWARE: there is nothing to do! All shops close at 5 pm. Most restaurants offer mediocre, overpriced food, which makes one wonder why they insist on reservations and closing their doors before 8:30. One restaurant in particular, the Devonshire in Wellington, is especially unwelcoming to dinner guests.
Prince Edward County has a frustrating amount of potential but "The County" seems unprepared and unwilling to do what is needed to offer guests a diverse and welcoming experience.
My advice to those planning a trip to this area: bring a good book!
