Is it feasible to take highway 30 from 10 and then go west on 25 to 440 south to avoid Montreal traffic?
Gulp, no. The 25 doesn't really connect how you expect it to, it is very deceiving on the map and a chunk of it is not hwy at all. If you zoom in on the google arial photo map you will see that the bridge and road do not really exist. It is not the best way to travel, I tried it and sorely regretted it!
The very worst bit of the drive is the Champlain Bridge and the bit of the HWY 15 that runs through to the Decarie up to the HWY 15 north. If you are going to hit traffic, it will be there.
My advice is to hit the Champlain by 1pm and therefore be through and past before rush hour hits. THe HWY's before, and after that should be fine outside of rush hour Or wait until after 7pm and get through the area then.
There are some detours, but you will exchange longer driving times for sitting in traffic. Especially as the Mercier Bridge is often limited during the day.
It is possible to approach Tremblant through Hawksbury, Ontario, But it is a long way around and would add about an hour to the trip.
At this point I have tried many ways and decided that I just have to time my trips well and hope for the best. But Montreal traffic truly SUCKS!
Just a reminder…citizens of the United States require one of the following to cross the border by land.
• U.S. Passport
• U.S. Passport Card
• Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)
• Trusted Traveler Program Card
Kids 15 and under just need their birth certificates.
