South Tahoe Fireworks vs. other lake fireworks and where to?

So, we've decided to do Tahoe for 4th of July...we know it is going to be crazy packed. So, our initial reason for going is to see the "one of the top fireworks shows in the country" Lights on the Lake fireworks that South Shore puts on...we're assuming, however, that the other fireworks display happening around the lake (Tahoe City), and possibly others are likely to be less crowded... I'd appreciate the thoughts on the various options by someone who has seen them. :)

Also, if the South Tahoe display is THE place to be for fireworks, at least, are there any places that are good for viewing that we won't have to camp out all day to have a spot?

I'd really appreciate any advice! We're fairly local in Sac, and have been to Tahoe many times, both North and South...but this will be our first 4th of July excursion.

Appreciate any thoughts!! :)

We;ve seen several fireworks in the area - and I would say that South Lake Tahoe is special. We had lodging where we could walk to lake's edge and watch the fireworks. Its one of the best in the west and worth seeing. It depends in part however where you are staying and where you end up having to park if you are driving a car. If driving a car, I'd probably plan dinner, enjoy the outdoors, and get there a few hours before the fireworks. Its busy all day - but all the more so an hour or so before the firework show. Have fun and wherever you celebrate enjoy the 4th of July.

If cominu up for the day, you;ll probably be able to find parkingin the casino parking lots and then walk down towards the beach area for best views.

We're actually staying about 5 mins up the hill at a Heavenly cabin. So, probably we'll be looking for parking unless the shuttle is running, which I'm not sure it does during the summer.

If you are only 5 minutes up the hill, I would just walk. . After the show is over everyone leaves at the same time, and you will spend more than 5 minutes trying to get out of your parking spot. I have been to the show 3 times and it is great. I have always viewed it from the beach at Edgewood which is the prime spot. However, I have always been an invited guest at Edgewood and that helps. The fireworks are shot off from barges on the Lake and the music is syncranized with the local radio station.

South Lake Tahoe becomes gridlock on the night of the fireworks. I would avoid driving and try to get coordinated with the shuttle. People will spend the afternoon on the beaches and they will be packed for the fireworks display.

We've seen the wonderful fireworks from SLT at the beach, and from the top parking structure of Harvey's Hotel. I think they sell tickets for it, as do other places. Then we've stayed in our lake front room at Harveys to watch them, avoided the mass of humanity, but missed out on the music that goes along with the fireworks.

Finally we moved over to the Hyatt in Incline Village a 25 min ride to the north. They have a fantastic 3 day community celebration and Firework show from a barge on the lake. If you stay at their hotel, they give you wristbands, and you can get on the private beach for Fireworks, sit in beach chairs, on the sand, etc. They have the music to go along with the show. If you don't stay at the hotel, you can go to other areas along the lake, but need to be there in the afternoon to find a spot.

How is the Incline Village show in comparison to the SLT show? Also, I'll be contacting Harvey's that's great info...do you, or anyone else know of any other places that sell tickets for places for viewing? I've talked to some of the lake cruises that are doing dinner/dancing type things, but they're pretty fancy (and expensive) for a group that will be more than half kids. :) Appreciate all the replies so far...definitely will be doing the shuttle thing, not driving down the hill that day, just sounds like a nightmare to try to be driving in/around town that day.

The Fireworks at Incline Village is one of the best. They run about a half hour, but perhaps the one in SLT has the edge, and runs longer? They both have synchronized music, which is important to feel part of the festivities.

At the Hyatt the spirit starts in the evening with a live band on a stage, a BBQ if you want to get a ticket, outside the Lone Eeagle Grill,, and staff sell those neon necklaces and bracelets in red, white and blue colors. Looks great when the sun goes down.

Have fun.

The South Lake Tahoe fireworks show is beyond amazing! Edgewood Golf and Country Club sells dinner/fireworks show tickets that were pricey but worth every penny. 2 years ago when we did it they were $75 per adult and $35 per child for an all you can eat buffet which including all you can drink wine, beer and sodas. The dinner was gourmet and way better than we expected. Dinner was at round tables outside and then they had seating on the beach for us when the sun went down. We walked from our hotel in South Lake Tahoe. I believe they have limited parking for a fee. But with all you can drink, who wants to be driving? After seeing people parked on the beach all day saving seats, this was definitely the only way and best way to go! Tickets do sell out!
