Classic Ski Lodge in Tahoe?

Hi folks,

Sorry if this is a question that comes up, searching didn't yield me results.

My girlfriend and I are planning to head up for Martin Luther King weekend and she is looking for that sort of classic ski lodge that one would see in movies - couches, big roaring fire, and (hopefully a bar, but at least) good hot chocolate.

Do places like that exist in real life? Any advice on hotels that have one or are near one? Any recommended search times to find one? (do places with ski-in generally have this sort of thing?)

Thanks in advance.

You have many options. Hyatt Incline Village and Resort at Squaw Creek come to mind. Check out some of the photos in Tripadvisor to see if this is what you had in mind

The Ritz at Northstar has the fireplace with couches thing going on but that's a busy weekend you may have to fight for the couches. :)

The Hyatt at Incline has couches and stone fireplace in the lobby and at the Lone Eagle Grill.Go to the Hyatt Incline website, click on the Explore Hotel link a page will pop up. Click onthe DIning one and click thru the pics to find the Loane Eagel Grill. Or Click on the property link to see the pic of the lobby.

The lobby at Squaw Creek Resort has lots of couches and seating with floor to ceiling windows for awsome mountain views. There is also a stone fireplace

The Hyatt in Incline Village is just awesome, and fits all your needs. The best part is that it is lake front and you have your choice of rooms, from cottages on the green, tower/Club rooms or swimming pool view rooms. The Lone Eagle Grille Restaurant has a lovely bar with roaring fireplace next to the lake, or an outside fire pit in front of it's picture window where you can roast marshmallow's or sit around other fire pits around the property.

The Ritz in Truckee is absolutely stunning! They have a great fireplace there also and first-class amenities. :)

Sugar Bowl would be the classic option, though certainly not as new and fancy as places at Squaw Valley and Northstar.

Not at Tahoe, but on Donner Summit, just off the high road on the way over the Sierra to Truckee and Reno, Sugar Bowl has the old Swiss-style hotel overlooking the runs, and you get there only by taking a tram across to it. I would suggest booking early though, as it is not large.

Certainly the MLK holiday weekend is one of the most heavily booked in Tahoe. You would have to watch the weather reports close to your holiday, as road closures can happen due to blizzards. Check the resort cancellation policies carefully.

Sugar Bowl is straight from a 1940's movie.... The Hyatt Regency Incline, Resort at Squaw Creek and Ritz Carlton Northstar are all nicer, more modern, but I love Sugar Bowl.......

Yes, Sugar Bowl is a throwback, but they also keep their lifts up to date, and have added lots of more ski runs to add to their classic old runs named after the San Francisco streets, like Montgomery. At night, you can read books, look at the fire, or talk to one another, just like the olden days.
