If you drove from South Lake Tahoe via highway 395 to the Tioga Pass/Tuolumne Meadows area, it would be a drive of about 3 hours each way.
You could find lodging in motels in Lee Vining. You won't find any accomodation in the east end of the park unless you are camping. Tuolumne Meadowns Tented Camp may be closed by then. You might be able to drive to Olmstead point to see Half Dome and the Yosemite Valley from above, but you probably won't have enough time to visit the Valley floor, which is another 2 hour drive from the eastern entrance at Tioga Pass.
The trip to the west side of Yosemite will be considerably longer, probably 4 hours one way as described above. It is not practical for a day trip.
