Trip Report- Reno/Lake Tahoe Celeb Golf Tourney

Hey Guys,

I have been going to Lake Tahoe for years and love it. I have never written a trip report but my DH and I had such a really great and different type of trip that I decided to post it.

Our usual trip to Tahoe is hiking, sightseeing and gambling. We go several times a year and have been since 1999. However, we have never really went during the super busy time like the Celeb Golf Tourney and concerts.

I will try to post in days as I remember. Please bear with me.

We arrived at the Reno/Tahoe airport on time at 2:10p.m. and had booked the first night in Reno. We got our luggage easily to make the 2:30 shuttle to Harrah's. We were actually the only ones on the shuttle.

We checked in and were told that we had the presidential suite. We went to the room and wow!!! was it sweet!!. Two bedrooms, three baths, and a private balcony. Absolutely the best room ever!!!

We unpacked and chilled a little and went down to the casino to gamble a little and it was really quite in the casino. We decided to do the early diiner special at the Steakhouse. It was really a good deal.

We have been to Reno many times so we decided just to gamble before we started our trip to Tahoe. Should have went to bed - not a good night of gambling- paid for the suite!!

July 19th - took the shuttle to the airport and got our rent car to drive over to Tahoe. As we got closer to South Lake Tahoe we noticed that the roads were wet and it was raining a little and pretty windy.

Not complaing because it was 105 in Texas but we did not pack any jackets or long sleeves. We arrived at Harveys at about 11:30a.m. and it was really cold - about 48 degrees and windy. We actually had to buy some hoodies. Checked in - room was not ready - buy they gave us our tickets for Thurs and Friday for the Edgewood celeb golf tourney and Harrah's VIP tent on the 17th hole.

There were shuttles running over to Edgewood about every 10-15 minutes so we were able to get over there pretty quick. We were hungry by this time and decided to go straight to the tent to get our food. They had mexican food but it got cold really quick because of the 50 degree temps outside and wind. Lots of bloody marys being consumed by everyone.

Will post later of the golf tourney- this was the day of the celeb-am and most of the ams were much better than the celebs.

Our host at Harrah's has been telling us for years how much fun the golf tourney is and that we need to come up during that time. He has always said how the celebs entertain the crowd during the day and at night at Harrah's. The fan favorite is Charles Barkley and I think that he is so funny.

After lunch at the 17th tent- we decided to walk the course and try to find Sir Charles. We felt like we had got our hike in by the time we found him.

Also on the 18th hole - they were having the champagne celeb spray-off. That was a lot of fun to watch too.

We tooked the shuttle back to Harvey's about 3:30 or 4:00 when it was over. By this time - after walking at least half the course - we were pretty tired. Checked into our room though and freshened up a bit and decided to see what was going on. According to our sources, the celebs came out later at night to entertain.

Long story short- we were so tired that we went to bed by 1l:00 and missed the entertainment Thurs. night.

Really enjoyed the golf tourney on Friday, Sat. and Sunday. The majority of the the celebs were really nice and played with the crowd. Especially Oscar dela Hoya, Jason Whitten, Alphonso Ruberio (sic), Joe Thiesman, and many more.

Went to the Maroon 5 concert on Sat. night - great place to watch a concert. Lots of young girls that spilled over to Harrah's Center Stage. It was so crowded that you could not get to the elevators to go to the room.

The golfers started singing and dancing about 11:00. Jerome Bettis, Jerry Rice, Charles Barkley, Alphonso Ruberio and lots more. We went to bed about 2:30 and they wiere still performing. So-o fun!!

The final day of the golf tourney was great on Sunday and to top off our trip we saw the best concert ever- Loverboy, Pat Benetar and Journey!!. What a great performance - Journey was amazing.

If you have never done the golf tourney - try it once- lots of fun and entertainment.
