Boat rental tahoe Keys

We are leaving next week for Tahoe Keys. Two families consisting of four adults and three boys age 13-15.

We were looking at boat rentals and are shocked at the rates. Would like to rent a boat for a day, maybe two and was wondering if anyone knows any decent deals.

Thanks in advance

We rent from Action Water Sports in Incline Village, but they have a location on the south shore.

Prices are $400 for four hours (1/2 day). It is what it is, no cheaper rates that we have found for a power boat.

Look at craigslist for Reno. Type in Boat Rental in the search box. Lots available at far better rates.

on and on all at the lake.

Gasoline on the lake is super expensive. Over $5 a gallon. If the boat is launched and bouyed or slipped on the lake then you'd have to pay those high prices. If it's trailered you'd be able to get the gas at the gas station for less.

I wonder if a credit card company will accept a non-licensed business like these under the table rentals. No license. No tax paid. No insurance. Buyer beware.

One of the big problems on the lake with rental boats is damage to the propellers. People don't obey the rules and bring the boats in too shallow and get big prop dings. Those things can cost $700. I hope someone renting from a private party is willing to cough up the cash to replace it.

Yes, those rates are very high. You might consider dragging your own boat - or finding one locally in Las Vegas. Keep in mind though that you have to go through a boat inspection before you can launch any boat into Lake Tahoe. They are especially interested in boats that have been in Lake Mead.

How do you know those are not licensed? Lots of businesses advertise on Craigslist.

The first link accepts all major credit cards.

The second link has been renting the boat for 7 years.

People rent homes from VRBO and in most cases they don't' take credit cards.

Buyer Beware applies to ALL purchases all the time. A buyer should always be aware of the terms of a purchase including the risks. Even legit businesses can rip you off.

The inspection fee costs $65. If the company has paid for an inspection and has the Only Tahoe decal they will have a wire on the front of the boat attached to the trailer. This wire is cut by the person manning the launch area. The wire is reattached when the boat is pulled out of the water. Any trailered boat without a wire is not allowed to launch until they've had an inspection.

Why do boats have to be Inspected? I am from Texas and have never heard of this

There is an invasive zebra mussels among others that will destroy the lake. Boat inspections are now required to makesure the invasive species do not enter the lake ecosystem.
