Marriott hotel: Restaurants in South Lake Tahoe

We tend to stay at Hyatt or Squaw in North Lake Tahoe but just booked a week at Marriott in South Lake Tahoe, and would love suggestions on restaurants nearby.

In the past, we had had a few disappointing meals in South Lake Tahoe (do not recall particular restaurants), and I would love to plan better this time.

Lunch restaurants: will have a toddler and an older child, and tend to eat grilled meats/seafood/chicken, and vegetables-- i.e. not sandwiches/burgers/pizza joints. We don't care if it is fine dining or an ethnic hole in the wall that serves great food (love Indian, Pakistani, Thai, Middle Eastern, and Vietnamese among others).

Dinner: same as above. I appreciate a great wine list. Any cuisine/price point- as long as it is actually good. Casual is fine for a few nights.

***Are there any decent buffets in casinos for nights when our toddler can't handle fine dining?

*** Is there an equivalent of prime rib dinner/buffet like they do in Hyatt on Saturdays? My kids love steak.

Bars/lounges: could someone recommend good lounges? I am assuming in casinos?

Best steakhouse? Which one is your favorite?

We will be located next to the grocery store and Starbucks, which will be convenient for traveling with two children. We will have a car as we are driving from the Bay Area.

Any other tips/suggestions to have a great week in South Lake Tahoe are appreciated.

Thank you all for helping me plan.

Unfortunately, we ended up leaving a few days early despite the paid weekily stay at Marriott... Once again, we did not like the South Lake Tahoe - other than the look of the lake, and the beautiful trees.

A few points -

1. The lake was too cold for swimming. And the beach was driving distance, not walking distance from Marriott (carrying umbrellas, etc). Not my idea of a good time.

2. All the restaurants we had tried were mediocre at best. I did not like a single meal anywhere in South Lake Tahoe.

3. If we do return to Lake Tahoe ever again in the summer (never to South Lake Tahoe)-- only to Hyatt/Squaw/Ritz. That area is so much nicer!

Where did you end up eating?

I can't imagine leaving Tahoe early. I'd just go to different beaches like on the north and west side. Sorry your visit wasn't what you wanted. :(

While I do like the Squaw Valley Resort and I like Northstar where the Ritz is located, both of those would require a drive to the beaches to enjoy the lake. The Hyatt is really a great location, right on the lake with all the amenties of a resort including beach services like lounge chairs, and food and beverage service. Sure hard to beat that!

I tried multiple breakfast places- all diner quality: could not eat that food. Gross.

We tried a number of dinner places- mediocre at best. Not terrible, but nothing good enough (maybe I am spoiled by weekly dinners in Napa Valley).

Plus the overall vibe of South Lake Tahoe just did not appeal to me. I don't feel that way in North Lake Tahoe. I was happy to get out of there, and come home to my own (warm !) pool and spa, and great food nearby.

I guess this is just a personal preference.

Thank you all!
