Help with driving from Redding please!

Hi Everyone,

This is going to seem silly, but please hear me out. We will be leaving Oregon after work so we will only be driving as far as Redding the first night. Therefore I am asking for the best route from Redding to South Lake Tahoe with the following details

One person in our group really wants to go to the Burger Me in Truckee (she knows there is also one in Reno), she wants the Truckee one. Would it make sense to plan our drive from Redding going through Truckee to get to SLT. Our vacation week is really packed in already and we don't really have time to take 3 or 4 hours to do a SLT Truckee run just by itself another day.

Would it be a bad route to go on the way there to try and accommodate her? If that is the case what is the best route from Redding?

Thanks so much for your time and any advice that you can give us.

Sincerely,

Gina

If you are traveling to South Lake Tahoe the most direct route would be to use Hwy 50 from Sacramento. Driving through Truckee would be a detour, but a drive along the west side of Lake Tahoe is sure a pretty one.

However, there is some major road construction on I-80 and I see Hwy 89 along the west shore also has a one way traffic control. It looks like this route could be even more of a delay.

To go through Truckee stay in Mt Shasta. Take hwy 89. It's fairly fast, but through the mountains. Take 44 to Susanville--all fast, but cooler than the valley. Then take 80 to Truckee. I love Burger Me too. Fresh, organic, and helping people!

Once you finish at Burger Me in Truckee take 267 south to the lake. Then turn left onto 28 and head south on the east side of the lake to South Lake Tahoe.

I've heard a couple of people say that they didn't care for Burger Me, but who knows what they are used to eating (bland, processed no doubt). The first time I had the Veggie/Garden Burger I wasn't sure what to think. They actually make the patty from scratch. I love it! Very tasty! Their tuna burgers are very good. My husband loves the beef burgers. Their sweet potato fries are killer.

I would try to avoid heading east on 80 since there is road work in both directions that will really slow you down especially with the trucks going slow.

I would consider the Mt Shasta or McCloud overnight and the route that travelingrunner suggested.

Hadn't heard of Burger Me before, and I go to Truckee several times a year (but not usually at that corner of downtown) but I may have to try it out when I'm camping outside Truckee next weekend. Someplace to take my grandkids when they're tired of fishing or goofing off. I'm of the Mt Shasta - Truckee - SLT route opinion for ginaj, too. There are several hotels in Mt. Shasta.
