side trip for honeymoon?

Hi My fiance and I will be honeymooning next July for a week at the Marriott Timberlodge in South Lake. we plan to do some short hikes, maybe kayaking and river rafting in trukee while there. We would like to spend another 3-4 days in another location.. We are flying from southern California into Reno, then renting a car. We would love some ideas of where else in the area would be fun to explore. We could just stay somewhere on the NOrth shore, or could drive a few hours any direction, perhaps even flying home from another airport. We do not prefer San Francisco, but any other ideas either along the coast or inland - we are open to looking at anything as long as there is some sort or unique lodging and views at the location. Neither of us has ever ventured North of Tahoe, so we are not sure what our options are. Thanks for any input.

Yosemite is a 2 -3 hour drive south of Lake Tahoe. It would be worth it to spend at least a night there.

You could drive down the east side of the Sierras, visit Bodie State Park, Mono Lake, and enter Yosemite from the very scenic Tioga Pass side.

I vote for a trip down the east side of the Sierra also. If Yosemite in July isn't your idea of a good time then consider Mammoth Lakes. So much to see there you could stay a week.

"We are flying from southern California into Reno, then renting a car."

If you are asking about Judy 2013, just want to remind you to make your plane reservations early, as well as your rental car. We'll be there next week at the Hyatt in Incline Village, and have learned to make the reservations months in advance. There are only a few non stop fights from LAX to Reno each day, especially on weekends, and they fill up fast.

Congrats on your marriage and Honeymoon.
