Accessibility to West End of Jamaica?

Hi guys! Thinking of getting a villa with some friends near silver sands, but I want to explore Montego and Negril to. I heard that taxis were pretty expensive, so do you guys think that it would be feasible to take a taxi during the day out of silver sands then come back at night by taxi again? Thanks in advance.

Silver Sands is near Duncans and is about 10 miles east of Falmouth. In the last year or so Falmouth has become a cruise port. Because of this there are a number of tour operators in town. Some run tours from Falmouth to Negril and you can probably arrange to take one of these.

Call one of the tour operators in Falmouth and see about booking the tour. See if they will pick you up at your villa. If not, take a route taxi from Silver Sands to Falmouth (ask your maid how to take a route taxi to Falmouth) for about $J100 per person one way. Then take the tour from Falmouth to Negril and back. The tour will take about 7hr. and cost about $US50 per person. You want to leave Falmouth about 1PM so you will be in Negril for sunset (return will be about 8PM).

The past two years we've used Peat Taylor Tours for our excursions. Last year we went from Runaway Bay to Negril and spent the day on the beach and dinner at Rick's Cafe (a must). I highly recommend them. You can read reviews of their operation here on TA. Check out http://www.ochoriosjamaicatours.com/ for rates.
