We are planning to celebrate our anniversary in June, and are looking for a great (but not overly expensive) place to stay, along with fun, active things to do - mountain biking, hiking, renting a boat or canoe, etc. Suggestions?
Thank you.

Thank you.
There are lots of places that fit the bill. A couple of questions to help you get specific answers would be ages, how you are getting to Tahoe area and how long do you plan to stay?
We are going to drive to the Tahoe area and stay for four days. I should have mentioned that while we are active, we don't really want a scene that's too crowded. We'd prefer something quieter with access to the outdoor activities, but still be able to get to nice restaurants. Anything of that nature? We're late 40s, if that matters.
We stay at the Hyatt in Incline Village, on the north shore. It's quiet up there in June, set among the Pine trees, and has private lake front cottages, The Lone Eagle Grill on the lake, for beautiful sunsets, tower and poolside rooms, with mountain views. There is a small casino since it's on the NV side of the lake, water activity desk where you you can rent kayak's, boats, etc. Lots of restaurants across the street to choose from.

Hyatt's Lone Eagle Grille at the lake.
Thanks. I'll check it out!

I think vrbo is a great option if you want to have an option that is a little more "homey" and allows you to store and re-heat left overs, lounge around the comfort of a home during down time, enjoy less expensive evening beverages, and such.
There is TONS of great hiking all around Tahoe on both the North and South shores. If you enjoy hiking you can easily get away from crowds. Once you get your lodging squared away then go back and start making a list for activities and searching hiking sites.
