Driving NYC-Quebec City-where should we layover

Hi all, you've been so helpful with your other recommendations, would appreciate your advice. My family is driving 12/27 up to Quebec City from NYC and would like to stop somewhere to break up the trip. I'll be with my 19 month old so somewhere where we can park the car and walk around/sightsee. Or a great hotel/resort that has a lot going on like the Lake Placid lodge. Is Burlington walkable? Thank you in advance!

Burlington is definitely walkable if you stay downtown, not on the outskirts, though there is a very nice Sheraton just off the highway, Route 89.

If you want to get a little closer, you could always head over to the Eastern Townships, off Route 10 in Canada, where they have activites all season long. Check out easterntownships.org for more ideas. We stay at places more gewared for great meals, but the site has plenty of recommendations on where to stay. From there you would only be 2 to 2 and half half hours away, while from Burlington add on another hour.

Burlington is perfect. Even if it is built on a slope you don't really need to climb it. as the pedestrian mall is about halfway through the hill and perpendiculr to it. This mall is one of the very few downtown pedestrian malls in the US that is nice, lively and succesfull.

Although it might not interest your young kid so much a nice activity would be to visit nearby Shelburne Farms, at least he will see the farm animals around. and the whole family can taste tehir products. It is much better than a visit to the Ben and Jerry's factory.
