Inexpensive Hotel near Quebec cruise port and Old Quebec.

We will be flying to Quebec on Sept 27 the day before we depart on a cruise. Suggestions on reasonably priced hotels and what to do in a day and a half would be appreciated. Should be rent a car? Thanks in advance.

No car rental; a vehicle is a nuisance in Québec City.

You could try one of the hotels that go under the banner Les Hôtels du Parc but really check up the reviews on this site as this is a loose association and quality can vary enormously from one hotel to the other. Also those hotels are without elevators, so a problem if you are physically impaired. Another solution would be the room section of the Hostel, yes they have doubles outside of the dormitories and the location is great. Third solution would be some B&B and Auberge J.A. Moisan would be perfect. Still in Upper Town but a 5 minutes’ walk outside of the Saint-Jean Gate so a bit more of a real local neighbourhood. You will have to take a cab from the airport which is a fixed rate of around $ 35 + tip and, since those lodgings are located in Upper Town it would be cumbersome to try to walk to the Maritime Terminal but a cab ride then would be around $10.

What to see in 1 ½ days? Well walk the Upper Town inside the walls, check museums and special places around, get the view from Terrasse Dufferin and then go in Lower Town to see Place Royale and the old neighbourhood around and visit the Musée de la Civilisation, the museum that even museum haters like. You can get a combo ticket for the Museum and the Centre d’Interprétation de la Place Royale, even add admission to Musée de l’Amérique Française in Upper Town if you want.

Just wander around and you will make plenty of discoveries. You can even have lunch or breakfast at the beautiful Beaux-Arts style restaurant of our Assemblée Nationale (provincial parliament). It is called, accordingly, Le Parlementaire, reservations are necessary and proper ID to get past the security gate.

Maybe you would like hotel Belley in lower town. Near cruise terminal, near old town, lots of good restaurants nearby, close to "petit Champlain".
