Will be in Montreal on June 28, 29 and 30th. Staying in Old Montreal. It will be just me and my husband, both mid 40's. I would like to make reservations for three nights in three good restaurants. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

I would pick one area for each night (none of these places are cheap with Milos being the most expensive):

1. Old Montreal

L'Épicier - French/local produce. Great views of Marché Bonsecour if you can sit by the window. Old building, cozy, chic, informal. Good food.

La Marée

Seafood, very French, somewhat formal, Louix XIII decor, normally attracts 35+ year old, quiet

2. Plateau/Mile End

L'Express - French Bistro, informal, lots of action, mix of tourist and locals. Popular with artists (actors, writers, etc.)

Milos

Greek, fresh seafood, upscale and expensive.

3. Little Italy OR Downtown

Il Mulino (little Italy) - Italian. Small, quiet, great food.

Da Vinci (Downtown) - Italian, great fish and meat, in Victorian townhouse, small, lots of architectural details.

I would also suggest Restaurant Europea on De la Montague.

Kaizen for sushi is also good. Have fun!

I have already been to Modavie and L'express a couple of years ago. Any more good recommendations in Old Montreal? Is Toque still popular?

Modavie, this is part of a chain!

Joe Beef is not in old montreal. Toque is not in old montreal, but adjacent to it.

Club chasse et peche is great in the winter, they have venison, etc. on the menue. It is dark with small windows. Hardly the place I want to be in in July.

Tell us what you are looking for.

I am looking for bright, airy, cheery..nothing dark. I will be there in the summer. Italian not necessary. Get plenty here. All other would be good.

Is the restaurant attached to the Auberge Bonaparte any good?

I'm not a fan of Bonaparte, but notably some tourists on this board think it's good...

Le Cube is closed - I live nearby.

Holder is ok food and spotty service, but I like the decor, high ceilings, large windows. Boris Bistrot is up the street, but I have been so displeased by the slow and spotty service that I don't go there anymore.

The best restaurants are usually not in Old Montreal, it's a tourist trap in many respects. You pay a premium for eating in Old Montreal. I think that L'Épicier is good and not stuffy.

Are you looking for ambiance,? are you a foodie?, do you want French?, Indian?, Portuguese?, Steak?, Sushi?, Vietnamese,? Lebanese? do you want to try something new? Do you want a restaurant with a "scene", quiet and romantic, or with a nice bar? How much are you willing to pay? Is a great cellar important?

You are not being very helpful and we are doing this for free!!!!
