PEI Vacation Planning - Where to Stay

Planning a week or 2 vacation on PEI for late Aug, 2012.

Wondering where to stay and what type of accomodations - any advice would be appreciated

waterfront vs not -- is it worth the extra $$? is it possible to get a place on the watefront to see/hear the water?

location -- looking for something scenic and romantic

cottage vs b&b -- any advantage to one or the other?

stuff to do -- definitely want to do some biking, and see some lighthouses.

It's been a while since I checked back here.

We did go to PEI in 2012 as planned and had a glorious time.

IN reply to Suzy Q.

We stayed just outside Cavendish, right by the National Park, a place called Cavendish Beach Cottages.

Walking/Bike trail across the street. Bike rental places in North Rustico and Cavendish. Hiking probably close by as well, but we didn't get a chance as 1 week was not enough time.

Not really close to Charlottetown, but we wanted to be as close to water as possible.

Hope this info gets to you in time.

LOL, no confederates here in Canada, AdventurerCFS - it's Confederation Trail. PEI is where the meetings were held by the "fathers of Confederation" that led to the creation of "the Dominion of Canada": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Confederation .

By the way, you might want to click on "report inappropriate content" and then choose "remove my post". It's not really a good idea to list your email address on a forum like this - spam bots will "harvest" your email address and you may start getting a lot of spam.

People are allowed to give out recommendations of businesses - it's just that business owners are not allowed to promote their businesses here in the forums. There is also a "PM" function (personal messaging) here on TripAdvisor, so someone could send you information that way too, instead of you having to give out your email address. You can access messages from the menu at the top of the page, under "Your account".

Bike rental businesses are listed on the PEI tourism website. http://www.tourismpei.com/index.php3 and you may also be able to find some of them listed here on TripAdvisor under "Things to Do".

2 seniors looking to spend a week this summer.

Don't mind day driving but would like to stay somewhere we could walk do dinner/shopping.

Outdoor pool would be a huge plus.

Hi NYC67. Please repost this question in the PEI forum. It's not a good idea to ask questions on old posts...the original poster might be getting email notification that somebody has answered their question and considering this thread is over 1 year old they might find it to be a annoying. If you scroll down near the bottom of this page you will see a yellow box that says "ask a question". You'll probably get more responses too.
