Public Transportation from Homewood Suites to Rogers Centre

We will be staying at Homewood Suites Toronto Airport (Eglinton West) and wonder if it would be feasible to travel by public transportation to the Rogers Centre. If so, what would be our best route? Also, would we be able to do the same thing in reverse late at night after a Jays game?

Hi cornish24;

Respectfully, there is nothing out by the airport of interest to a tourist. If you can, I would suggest changing hotels.

Best Regards

Thanks for the quick reply. We're only in town for the day and flying out early next day, which is why we chose this particular hotel. Just thought we might be able to take in a game that evening. :)

It is doable, but it will take a minimum of 90 minutes to 2 hours - quite likely longer. The area where your hotel is located is not served well by public transit.

For route information and planning, go to the TTC website: www.ttc.ca.

Or you can go to google maps, plug in your starting and ending points under directions, and then click on the transit icon for various routes.

An alternate option, but still awkward would be to go back to the airport and take the TTC's airport express service, to Kipling subway station and then take the subway from there. But again - it is a very roundabout and long trek.

It's actually not quite that bad -- MiWay routes 35 and 17 (rush-hour only) run along Eglinton and will take you directly to the TTC Islington subway station. If you time it right, the whole bus + subway combo is doable in an hour and a quarter.

You'd have to pay two fares each way: $3.25 cash for MiWay, $3 cash for the TTC.

The only problem is on the way back: between 9 pm and midnight, route 35 only runs once every half hour. You'd want to note the schedule, and if you were going to have a long wait, continuing one stop further on the subway to Kipling and grabbing a taxi from there would be much faster.

Thanks for the info., guys. Looks like it's doable if we allow plenty of time and take a cab from Kipling to the hotel on the way back.

Depending on the amount of people in your party, out of convenience I may look into a rental car if it's cheap enough...

Ah ... now that might work. Never driven in Toronto though, but I guess one could park on the outskirts and take the subway into the centre.

There's parking at Yorkdale and Kipling subway stations to consider, then take the TTC to the game allowing the convenience of getting to the airport the next day...

Just note that you wouldn't actually save a big amount of travel time by driving to an outlying station and taking the subway. The MiWay bus routes I mentioned take the highway down to the subway station, so the part of the route you'd be riding moves fairly quickly. The car would mostly give you the convenience of not having to wait for a bus.

Another option would be to take the subway to Kipling, then catch the 192 Airport Rocket to the airport. From there you could get the hotel's shuttle or a cab.
