Peterborough to Toronto

We will be visiting Peterborough in June and want to then visit Niagara Falls. What is the best form of transport other than drive ourselves? Or would it be best to just return to Toronto overnight and set out from there?

Hi Coonamble;

Peterborough is approx. 86 miles / 138 km northeast of Toronto. The average drive is about 1½ hours, without any traffic delays.

Niagara Falls is approx. 80 miles / 130 km southwest of Toronto. The average drive is about 1½ hours, without any traffic delays.

Your only option, other than driving yourself, would be a coach bus from Peterborough to Toronto, and then making your way to Niagara Falls.

From Toronto, you have three public transportation options available to you;

1. take a VIA Rail train, but limited number of trains between the two cities. www.viarail.ca

2. take a coach bus, frequent service. www.greyhound.ca or www.coachcanada.com

3. take a combination of GO Transit train / bus. gotransit.com/publicroot/…NFGO.pdf

Best Regards

There is also a GO bus from Peterborough to Oshawa (10 times per day on weekdays). So it would be possible to travel from Peterborough all the way to Niagara on Go Transit, with two cross-platform changes (one at Oshawa and the other at Burlington). The single fare is $26.95. With ideal connections the journey time is just under 5 hours. Since Go is a commuter services this would be a stretch, but the Go Transit coaches are reasonably comfortable.

Hi Coonamble;

The GO Transit website is;

FYI...GO Transit is primarily a commuter service, so you will need to ensure that the schedule fits your needs. Depending on the timing, you may find that you can use GO to travel one-way, and then Greyhound the other.

Best Regards
