Ottawa vs Quebec City

So I originally thought of going to Quebec. (We will visit, Niagara, Montreal, Toronto also), but it would save us some hours of driving plus we would be at Ottawa during Canada Day, which I heard it's better there than in Quebec.

So I literally just have about a day in a half (maybe 3 hours more in Ottawa), to spend in either Quebec City or Ottawa.

We are a group of 5, 2 teens, 2 adults and 1 young adult (early 20's)

Which is better?

What can I do for Canada Day in each city?

This thread will also be at the Ontario and Quebec City forum.

Hi charal95;

Spend the time in Ottawa. Quebec City is just too far for this trip.

Best Regards

Quebec is the far nicer city by a country mile. It's a little slice of Europe right here in Canada. As RT points out it's adding more to your drive though. Quebec City is about 3 hours further down the highway from Montreal. Ottawa however, is a good place to be on Canada Day as well.

Im just considering Ottawa because it's saves me from driving and Canada Day. I saw a comment that Quebec is a larger Old Montreal.

Ottawa on Canada Day actually is pretty special, one of the few days of the year I'd pick Ottawa over Quebec City....

I would choose Quebec - it is a much more unique and interesting city with much more atmopshere

Quebec City is really nice, if you like visiting historical sites, but for Canada celebration, you are best off in Ottawa. St-Jean(the 24th) is when Quebec City is a real party town, not on Canada Day

I have this itinerary which I found much better

Arrive Montreal in the morning. Drive the same day to Niagara

Stay 2 nights at Niagara

Depart to Toronto and stay 3 nights there

Drive to Ottawa and stay 2 nights there.

Drive to Montreal and leave the car, and stay 3 nights.

I just have a BIG question:

Where can I get tickets for the red Hop on Hop off bus???

Here's what I might do if you still would like to see Quebec City....

1 night Niagara - one day here is enough

3 nights Toronto

1 night Ottawa - I also think one day here is enough

2 nights Quebec City

3 nights Montreal

You're biggest driving days would be from Montreal to Niagara (about 7.5 hrs) - Toronto to Ottawa (5 hrs) and then from Ottawa to Quebec City (about 6 hrs) This all depends on if you're up to the driving or not.

Thanks but I feel is a bit of a rush.

But still thanks to everyone.

I'm now looking what to do in Ottawa. Was planning to take the red bus but it's "closed" for Canada Day.

Do anyone know where can I find the map of the route?
