Hire car or use bus/train for one night in Niagara falls

We will be stayng in Toronto for a couple of nights at the end of a holiday in October and have booked the final night in Niagara Falls before we fly back to UK late at night the following day from Toronto.

That means we have virtually all of day 1 to travel to and explore Niagara and need to be back at the airport by around 8pm on Day 2.

I see comments that parking is extra at the Marriott. Might it be better to use a bus or train to and from Niagara rather than car hire - or is care hire and parking worth it for the flexibility?

Could we hire from central Toronto and return at the airport?

Is there storage for some of the luggage at Toronto airport (or train station) if we decided to do this - or are Toronto hotels used to this and might store some luggage for a night?

Having a car really provides a lot of flexibility ... and would allow you to explore nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake and other area attractions. There are various options for parking in NF - do a search or read some ongoing forum posts.

Taking a bus or train would mean returning to downtown Toronto and then trekking up to the airport ... more costs involved. Renting a car downtown and returning to YYZ is pretty common, and unlikely to incur drop-fees.

A bus or train means having to get a taxi to/from the bus/train terminals to the hotel in Niagara Falls. The two fares would likely exceed the parking rate at the hotel.

I agree that renting a car would not only eliminate playing tag with buses and trains it would take care of your luggage. Most importantly however, it would as suggested allow you to visit the mouth of the Niagara River and Niagara on the Lake. In between the cities are Queenston Heights, the Brock Monument and Fort George. If you are interested in the War of 1812. there is a Museum on Ferry Street in Niagara Falls devoted the war, with an emphasis on the Battle of Lundy's Lane which site is a few yards up the road. I just moved here from St Catharines and have not yet visited it but I have visited most other places of note and lived in Niagara on the Lake for several years
