Planning a trip in mid April, advice appreciated

Hello,

I’m starting to plan a trip for my wife and I, both in our early 30’s, in April. We plan to stay on the Canadian side for the first 2 nights, and the American side for the next 2 nights. Looking like a Fallsview room at the Marriott in Canada, not sure about the American side. Looking at maybe Holiday Inn, or Hampton Inn. I understand that on the American side no hotels really have a view, but would still like to be close to the Falls and Goat Island. The Marriott will be booked via a deal on Travelzoo.

We will be flying into BUF and renting a car. It looks like enterprise is the cheapest at the moment. Would it be wise to wait for a better deal, or jump on a decent price now? My wife will be about 6 months pregnant during the trip, so a lot of time will be spent resting and relaxing. We are looking for a nice massage, and Massage Niagara seems to be cheap, and looks decent. Any better options?

We would also like go out for a nice dinner, thinking something like Ruth’s Chris. Any suggestions for great steak houses?

As far as attractions, we’d like to do the Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, White Water Walk, the Whirlpool Aero Car, Skywheel and Cave of the Winds, and Goat Island. The Butterfly Conservatory would be optional. Would Cave of the Winds be suitable for a pregnant lady 6 months along, or any of the other ones for that matter.

We've never had a very long wait at the border crossing. I'd say the average is 5 - 10 minutes. Of course those crossings usually occurred during the week and during non-rush hours time periods. Don't stress over the waiting time. Just avoid the morning, noon and 5pm rush hour times and you should be fine.

So it looks like we'll be doing 4 nights at the Marriott Tues-Fri. A quick itinerary could be something like this:

Tuesday, flight lands around noon, get car and drive up to hotel. Relax and enjoy the view from the hotel, and park along the river.

Wednesday, probably go over and do the American side stuff: Goat Island, Maid of the Mist (if open), Cave of the Winds (if open), Skywheel, Observation Tower

Thursday, Journey Behind the Falls, White Water Walk, Aero Car, Butterfly Conservatory

Friday, Relaxation and Massages

With the travelzoo deal, we get two $25 vouchers per day for either Fallsview or Casino Niagara, as well as $40 per night at Terrapin Restaurant, and breakfast!

Much of the American side may be closed in April. Terrapin Point at the Horseshoe Falls is closed in the winter due to ice build up and usually opens in May sometime. The restaurant at Terrapin Point, Top of the Falls Restaurant, will not open until May 2013.

The walkways at Cave of the Winds are removed in the fall and rebuilt in the spring dependent on ice and weather conditions so would be questionable.

On the Canadian side, the White Water wlk is also closed for the winter and may not be open yet. During the spring melt there is a danger of rock falls from the gorge wall so they clear and check before opening.
