I need help with a driving tour this summer. 1 active Grandma, 2 parents, an 11 year old and an 8 year old. Time of year: June or July. Time frame: open, 5-7 days. What we want to do: explore. The kids are very interested in seeing Niagra Falls, so this trip is designed around that. It is also time to get them back to a big city, and Toronto will be great for that. We will leave from Dayton, Ohio, pick up Grandma in Toledo and head toward Detroit, then Toronto. We will spend x days in Toronto, then head to Niagra Falls, returning home via NY, and PA.
I need help with the in between. Are there places of interest between Detroit and Toronto? Toronto and Niagra Falls? I know this is an Ontario forum, but if you have suggestions for the southern route I will take those, too.
Will having a car in Toronto be a pain? We don't mind parking the car and using public transportation during our stay. We have used vacation rentals in Chicago, San Juan and San Diego. Is this a good choice in Toronto? What areas might be best with children?
