Things to do in Halifax |
|
I'm going to start a new thread of things to do in Halifax. More and more people will be looking for lists of things to do. Please add your comments, and we can bump this thread as the summer goes by..... If you have access to a car, I would drive down to Peggy's Cove. Go to Google Maps, and map it out from there. Get on the 103 Highway, and take exit #6 (It's about 10 minutes farther, but a prettier drive) Off exit #6, come back towards Halifax along the #3 highway through Hubbards. Very scenic drive. Take the #333 highway in Upper Tantallon, (first set of traffic lights you come to) and it will bring you right to Peggy's Cove. Keep going on the #333, and it will bring you back to Halifax. The drive will take you anywhere from 2-5 hours, depending on where and how often you stop. Take in a visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. You can visit their web site here (cut and paste it into your browser) http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mma/index.html I'd recommend the Harbour Hopper Tour of Halifax, it's a bus/boat that tours around the downtown core, and then goes out into the harbour. http://www.harbourhopper.com/main.html The Halifax Citadel is steeped in History, and each day at noon, the canon goes off, and scares the living daylights out of tourists that don't know what's going on! Haha www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/halifax/index_e.asp There are also evening dinner cruises that are really nice : http://www.murphysonthewater.com/ These ideas should get you started. I'm sure there are some other people that will add to this post. Enjoy Halifax! |

When I was in university we would go out to one of the "finer establishments" at night. (For example the Palace) and then go back the next morning for brunch. The brunch was never all that great but it was cheap and greasy, which is also how the bars were the night before. It is surprising how many of the bars offered breakfast. On second thought, this probably isn't a must do. But it was a lot of fun . . . and reminiscing is fun. . . We also like to go to the Public Gardens, walk around Spring Garden Rd. Eat on any patio we could find. Walking around the south end is really great to see all of the old mansions (go South Park St all the way to the park) Walk the waterfront and Historic Properties. Stare at the Crystal at the crystal shop and try not to break any of it. Trust me, there is a lot of fun things to do on a budget and without a car. Just be creative.

I always enjoyed the Freak Lunchbox for some "old memories" candy if you will, Dingles Tower- fun for the kids, tour of Nova Scotian Crystal to watch the mouth-blown,handcut crystal being made, going to the Public gardens for an ice cream, hoping on the 10 min. ferry to go to Dartmouth, and last but not least the entertaining The Grafton St. Dinner Theatre. P.S. If Halifax is too much/to fast for your taste you can always come to Cape Breton. I love both places but for two total different reasons.

The thread titled 'Teenagers' got me thinking about what to do with underage teenagers in Halifax at night. I'm not an expert, not having any teenagers, but I came up with the following: Shopping: MicMac Mall, and maybe others, is open until 9:00 Dinner harbour cruise: check out www.murphy'sonthewater.com Ghost walking tours: 2 are listed in the Greater Halifax Visitor Guide, neither of which has a website. (The guide is available from www.halifax.ca/visitors) Night in with pizza and tv. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Teenagers would like the busker festival. It's fun, loud, noisy and energetic. It's typically held the first 2 weeks of August. If you can travel during this time, and stay downtown, you're teenagers will enjoy.

Dont forget the show/movie theatre. Teenagers would love The IMAX. Go to www.empireimax.com to see what it is all about, if you dont already know. For restaurants try Jack Astors and Kokomos. An hour or two of fun at Dartmouth Sportsplex would be fun for them as well. Also the circus/carnival is in Halifax in August too. Lots of games and rides for the teenagers etc.

How could we forget the International Tatoo?
