Hotel (or B&B) Near The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia

Hello to all. I will be in Halifax Sept. 23-27, 2012 for a conference, which will be held at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Can anyone be kind enough to recommend places to stay that are either within a 15-20-minute walking distance (seriously expensive, I'm sure) or a very easy, reasonably-priced bus/taxi/other transporation mode commute to the Gallery? I've never been to Halifax before, and It would be helpful if the place were not too isolated, with various food options nearby. Any and all recommendations greatly appreciated.

Since the Art Gallery is right down town there are lots of options, but yes you will pay a price. Here is trip advisor's downtown list.

If you use priceline.com or hotwire you can often get a great deal. One hotel that often comes up with them is the Westin. http://goo.gl/maps/TFRx

You could also look at the Super 8 hotel near the ferry terminal in Dartmouth:

Hi Karen

The AGNS is in a very central location in Halifax, close to the waterfront. This is a great place to walk - with lots of shops, museums, parks, restaurants and hotels all along a waterfront boardwalk - so you won't have any trouble finding a place to stay well within your 15-20 minute walking limit. The issue will be finding something reasonably priced!

Most of the downtown hotels cost at least $150 per night, so (depending on your budget) you might consider that a good price. I agree with Maryann that the Westin is a good choice if you can get a better deal - plus they have really comfortable mattresses and are next to a great little restaurant :) Because the waterfront area is more commercial than residential, there aren't many B&B's in that area.

There is a great B&B across the harbour in Dartmouth, though, called the Blockhouse Hill Bed and Breakfast ( http://www.blockhousehillbedandbreakfast.com/). A friend stayed there just a few weeks ago and loved it - and the singles rate of $75 per night might be better for your budget. It is very close to the ferry terminal in Dartmouth, and the AGNS is very close to the terminal in Halifax, so that might be a good way of stretching your money but still staying reasonably close to your destination.

Hope this helps! Céad Míle Fáilte! One hundred thousand welcomes!

I concur with MommaScams re Blockhouse Hill B&B in Dartmouth; also think the ferry ride is a plus for your time in HRM. Just in case Blockhouse Hill B&B is already booked, please check www.nsbedandbreakfast.com, the website of the Nova Scotia Bed & Breakfast Association for other B&B possibilities in Dartmouth.

Since you are planning to be in HRM in September, please call 1-800-565-0000 to request a 2012 Doers' & Dreamers' Guide to Nova Scotia. In the HRM section are many restaurant suggestions to suit all budgets.
