Looking for a Affordable Place to stay for 2-4 people

We are planning on coming out to SJ for a week and a bit to do some hiking, sightseeing, and of course indulge in the George Street Festival. Looking for any tips on where to stay to keep our budget a little more realistic. We've thought that the best idea would probably be renting a furnished apartment.

Also any tips on surviving the Festival would be appreciated as well...we'll be just coming from 10 days at the 100th anniversary of the Stampede...so more of the same I imagine? From what I've read nothing really happens during the days...is that correct?

Finally any suggestions of hikes in and around SJ that are interesting....we've looked into a few including the Spout hike but would love more suggestions.

George st. festival has numerous activities happening around it all within a week or so(royal st.johns regatta ,the folk festival and numerous other festivals not that far from the main city)During the main couple of days of the george st. fest. there is always live music on the street....had to work many a day listening to the music in the background......

Fully furnished apartments as a rule dont run cheap and most require an extended time of stay...a b&b in the area are not that bad on rates ,$90-130+,depending on your tastes plus you get a bite to eat in the morning(this is a daily rate but often a weekly rate can be arranged)

Loads of hiking trails,quidi vidi,signal hill,black head,cape spear,etc

renting a car is a great way to spend your days also......there is more to the rock than just st. john's !!

As far as places to stay check out www.hillviewterracesuites.ca. It's affordable and decent. 2-3 rooms with your own kitchen so you can save abit of money right off the bat. Grocery store just a short walk away down the road on Elizabeth Drive. As far as location is ain't to far from anything right on major bus route to downtown and not far from Signal Hill.

Walk the streets downtown during the day you'll enjoy the atmosphere.
