snow shoeing

Does anyone know if you can just take the gondola up on your own to snowshoe up high ? I am told you cannot do this without hiring a guide. And where else are some good snowshoeing places close to the Village. We will not have a car so we will be depending on shuttles or taxis. I've done the lake close by; it's ok for a good workout on x-country skis but not much else. Thanks for any input !

The Callaghan Valley is really lovely, but getting there can be a bit of a challenge.

Callaghan Country recommends you use Rideshare.

You cannot snowshoe on Whistler or Blackcomb Mountains on your own. You can showshoe the trails around Lost Lake park at leisure. Trail pass and snowshoe rentals from Cross Country Connections, easily accessed from the Village. http://www.crosscountryconnection.ca

Sorry, I just realized you've been there, done that with Lost Lake

Have a look through this link. Most places are only accessible by car to the trail head. The last location in the link it talks about Parkhurst, where you can snowshoe back to the village via the Sea to Sky Trail. I'm not familiar with this so maybe someone else can fill in the blank.
