Would like to come out for spring skiing. My son's school break is the first week in April. Usually ski in Utah or Montana, but feel that conditions might not be that great so late in the season. Some resorts might even be closing that week.
Know that no one can really predict the weather....based on past winters, does it make sense to go way out there? We live in Atlanta and it will be a long travel day to get there.
Thoughts?
It could be great; it's bound to be good in the high alpine, though it's also quite possible that the snow down low, toward the village, could be wet. Last year was a bit warmer than previous years; there was a lot of snow but the snow was a bit soft for my taste. The previous few years April was very snowy and cold and conditions were great. If you're going to ski in April it's definitely one of the better bets, though as you know there are no guarantees. You should be able to find some good lodging deals, since its after prime season.
Anything can happen in April, from sunny and hot with slushy snow to decent powder days.
The World Ski and Snowboard Festival is held every April - next year it is from the 12th - 21st. check out http://www.wssf.com/
They don't exactly need excellent snow conditions, but they are confident enough we will have enough snow to host the event each year.
