Whistler is a master planned resort development, so it's been developed a bit differently than a lot of other places. And developed very well--it's quite compact, so you don't get that sprawl you get elsewhere, but that also means there aren't many private cabins for rent, because the outlying areas haven't been carved up into private lots/acreages. There are some neighborhoods that have been built that have freestanding houses (like the one linked above) but you're going to have next door neighbors. If you are wanting that isolated cabin-on-10-acres sort of vacation, I'd look elsewhere.

If you're seeking old fashioned log/wooden cabins, you're not going to find them in Whistler. As others have already explained, Whistler's a planned resort with hotels, condos, townhouses and luxury homes - but it's not cabin country.

However, if you drive north of Whistler, there are properties that offer cabins.

I've never stayed there, but there's the Birken Lakeside Resort which looks interesting. They're a 40 minute drive north of Whistler: http://www.blrproperties.net/

The community of Pemberton (which is a 35 minute drive north of Whistler) has the Whispering Falls Resort. Again, I've never stayed there, but they have cabins too:

Anyhow, those are some ideas if cabins are a necessity.
