Do you have a budget range in mind or a * class of hotel in mind? Do you specifically want to not stay in Victoria? It's a lovely small city from where day trips are easy to do.

We were hoping for around $100 a night - is that doable in the summer? We'd be good in Victoria if we could have somewhere on the water...Thanks.

Don't think you'll find anything in that budget range b&b or otherwise..the Island is popular in the summer and accommodation is limited.

$100 a night in Victoria in the summer is going to be tough to do. Impossible if you want something on the water.

In that price range, you will lkiely be looking at a basic motel...not a hotel.

You will need to try some of the motels on Gorge Road, which is 10 min by car from the Inner Harbour. The nice thing about that location is The Gorge itself. There is a beautiful, peaceful pathway along the length of the waterway. Use google maps to look up Gorge Road East, then switch to satellite view to see the lay of the land. This will likely be the closest area to come close to that budget.

The Days Inn is now the Ramada, not a separate hotel. None of them are on the water, but all are close. These will be the closest you will get to cheap, near the water in the middle of tourist season.

Recommend you stay away from the Gorge. It's a well known high crime area. Sure there's a nice path farther down West Gorge Road as stated above, but where the hotels are located on East Gorge, there is a LOT of drug dealing and prostitution going on. It's a high transient area, not the most conducive for a peaceful stay. I used to live in the area and moved as soon as my lease was up.

You may wish to try Sidney vs. Victoria - a little quieter but in my opinion more scenic if you want to be near the water.

For $100, you won't get waterfront luxury ... but there are lots of nice places around $120 / night.

i much prefer sidney...it is quieter and some nice little restaurants, coffee shops to walk to. victoria and sights are only a short drive away. we usually stay at the sidney pier hotel. that will be out of your price range but nice location if you could find a motel in that area. or you might want to consider one of the islands if you just want to relax. i like the blue vista on mayne island to just relax.

Sidney is indeed a lovely little place and I love that pier hotel-many's the Orca from the balconies.
