late night dining

We're going to see Mama Mia at the Royal Theatre on Saturday, August 4th at 8:00 p.m. Could you recommend a late night restaurant where we could get food and drink after the show? We'd prefer something quieter than a nightclub atmosphere (our age is showing). We're staying near the inner harbour so somewhere in the downtown area would be really helpful. Thank you in advance.

1. Re: late night dining

There are not a lot of choices for late night dining in Victoria -at least not a lot of nice places where you can have some decent food and a glass or two of wine. Many places close their kitchens at 10pm so if your event starts at 8pm, it may run past 10pm or by the time you exit the production may not actually get to a restaurant until 11. There are a lot of pizza by the slice places or diner type 24 hour places like Denny's.

I presume you'd like something a bit nicer - but not as you mention a "niteclub". Victoria doesn't have a tonne of places but here are my ideas for your consideration.

My number one choice would be "The Mint". It is a cool and funky food and watering hole. Open late, and located downtown. Their website is: http://www.themintvictoria.com/

For Italian food, there is Fiamo - downtown on Yates Street.

Their kitchen is open to 1am on Friday/Saturday. Their website is: http://www.fiamo.ca/

Another choice almost across the street from Fiamo is Ferris' Oyster Bar. It is downtown on Yates Street and is open until midnte on Fri/Sat. Not sure when their kitchen closes so you may want to inquire directly. Their website is: http://www.ferrisoysterbar.com/

All of your suggestions look appealing - I checked out their websites. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Over the weekend, I think we'll probably go to a couple of your suggestions. And I'm glad we'll have somewhere to go Saturday night without worrying about the time.

Another to add to your list is Clive's Classic Lounge. I haven't dined there personally, but I have had the fortune of trying their bartender's cocktails here in Vancouver during a special event, and they were incredible. Based on that one experience, I suggested Clive's to some of my friends who were visiting Victoria last summer, and they raved about it, saying it was one of the best dining experiences they had in Victoria. The Yelp reviews are also pretty favourable, and it looks like they're open until midnght/1am every night :)
