jasper vs banff

Is there more to do in Jasper than Banff? Or vice versa? We are splitting up our week between these two places and wondering where we should spend more time. Also is it worth the 2 hour drive to the Radium Hot Springs in BC from Jasper?

Jasper by far is the better of the two if you're interested in doing stuff in nature. If you're into doing stuff that involves shopping, partying, drinking, or shopping, Banff's your huckleberry. Jasper has hundreds of kilometers of trails more than Banff and the beautiful thing in Jasper is that all the trails are multi-user, and the even more beautiful thing in Jasper is that the multi-users get along. I've done activities in Banff where people snarl at you for doing an activity that they happen to not be doing, whereas in Jasper, pretty much everyone you see on the trail (regardless of what they're in to) are happy, and pleasant, and smiling. Not too many puss filled people in Jasper. It's a magical place with magical people. I've been a regular to the area, and it's what you imagine a mountain town to be. Everyone knows everyone, comercialism is at a minimal, no pretention, no hype, just rosy faces from just having done something exciting, sometimes muddy, sometimes covered in frost, but just as you'd imagine a picture book mountain town. What's great is that this feeling permeates in summer and in winter - winter being way less busy of course, so more opportunity to get to know the locals.

Banff is beautiful, as is Radium, but there is something wonderful in the air in Jasper that just can't be described in words. If you go, stop by the Info Centre in the middle of town, and let those knowledgable people steer you in a direction you're interested in going. They're amazing, and they do it all, so you're getting first hand experience helping you along.

Whatever you decide, have a great time, but be careful, this area has an amazing way of sucking you back year after year after year, until you become a local.
