Any suggestions for happy hour drinks and fun atmosphere pubs around the Occidental Grand in Nuevo?? I know of them in PV but have not stayed in NV before. Thanks.
No Name Bar in the Marina.
Yo Yo Mo's
No Name has been closed for a while. Going to Bucerias is your best bet. Several bars there including many on the beach.
yes find a Bucerias beachbar some have great food
If you go into Bucerias, the Shamrock Pub would be my pick. A real Irish Pub, right in Mexico. The Luna Lounge would be a close second, IMO.
I would also agree with bobnh on going to YoYo MO's pizza and sports bar in Bucerias. Terrific pizza and wings! Also, it is a great atmosphere with many ex-pat Canadians going there. Across the street is the Drunken Duck. They have live music every night during the high season (november-march). Currently, they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with live music every night.
Have a great trip!
Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of pubs, beach bars, etc. in the Nuevo area, other than those found inside the all-inclusive resorts. If you walk about 5 minutes north of the Occidental on the beach you'll find a small restaurant at Bahia del Sol called "The Seahorse", but it probably doesn't have the type of atmosphere you're looking for. About ten minutes north of there you'll come across the ETC. Beach Club, which may appeal to you more. You could check these places out during a morning walk up the beach before deciding whether to go there later.
As mentioned above, Bucerias would be a good choice. Since the original poster specified "happy hour", I'm going to assume they meant sometime around sunset. If that's the case, I would personally go to any of the Bucerias beach bars before I'd go to places like Yo Yo Mo's, the Drunken Duck, the Shamrock, etc.
Nothing against those establishments, it's just that when you live in a place like Calgary (as the OP and I do) you're a long way from the beach, so when I'm in the Vallarta area I prefer being on the beach to being inside a bar somewhere - at least during the day, and especially around sunset.
A good option to consider would be to spend a couple of hours at a beach bar in Bucerias in the late afternoon, then head a couple of blocks inland to one of the other places once the sun goes down if you decide you want to keep going.Edited: 10:44 am, September 19, 2012
Bucerias is the place to go...you will not be disappointed. Walk the beach to Fat Boys for a couple in the afternoong then off to Shamrock and Luna for happy hour then Yo Yo's for supper, off to Drunken Duck for dancing then cab home. Wow Feb can not get here soon enough!! Enjoy!!!
