A word of caution to first time visitors. Onc you have cleared immigrations after your arrival you will enter a room full of well dressed timeshare hustlers-some even have fake uniforms resembling officials. The real travel reps and resort reps are kept at bay so the timeshare people get the first opportunity to attack newcomers. The tactics they use will include pretending they have been sent by your resort to pick you up or that they work for your travel company-some even claim to work for the Nuevo Vallarta tourism board. Your real travel rep and legitimate transportation providers are just outside this shark-pool in the lobby of the airport. Remember that there is no such thing as a free ride to your resort unless it is through real travel rep who will have

credentials-or you can hire an airport taxi for the standard(regulated) fare to your destination.

Are these timeshare thugs at the airport 24/7.

My wife & I arrive at 9.40pm on a Sunday evening, are they likely to be there at that time?

What's their favourite scam?

What are their nationalities?

In Spain their mostly British, they give you a free scratch card but of course the scratch cards are all winners, then you have to go with them to collect your prize & guess where they take you, yes to the timeshare resort for a heavy sales talk.

This is a very important post, and very correct. We had a wonderful week at the RIU Jalisco last June. We were forewarned by tripadvisor posts about the timeshare sharks at the airport, so we were prepared. However, we were walking through behind a family that had a teenaged daughter with them. One of the timeshare trolls actually grabbed the teenaged girl by the arm and was pulling her away from the group. The police were right there and they will allow these sharks to do almost ANYTHING to trap you.

WALK, WITH A PURPOSE, RIGHT PAST THEM. THEY ARE PROTECTED BY THE AUTHORITIES IN SOME WAY.

NOTHING IS FREE, IT IS ALL A TRAP, YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU EVER WASTED A MINUTE.

"My wife & I arrive at 9.40pm on a Sunday evening, are they likely to be there at that time?"

Doubt you will find much of a 'trap' at that time -- they much prefer to set up during the busy hours of the day, when there's more potential bait to go after!! :)

But should there be some there, you'll recognize them -- they'll be the obnoxious types putting their noses directly in your face, asking you where you are going (which hotel) and attempting to encourage you to come with them to arrange the transport to your hotel, etc. (= the trap!!). Just keep walking past them -- ignore them and their questions, and proceed directly to the taxi kiosk near the exit, or to your pre-arranged transport there (should that be the case).

Good luck!!

I just got back from the Samba on Monday. I did not have one problem with time share people. I saw some of them standing around the airport but I did not make eye contact with any of them and only one person said "hi can I help you find something?" I held up my hand and walked right past him to the taxi kiosk.

A few people on the beach would come up and say something like - "could I interest you in a tour?" - I would just say no thanks and I never was bothered again.

We had eleven of us in our group and a supervisor at the taxi kiosk got us a van right away - for all us - only 60.00. It worked out great.

I really expected a lot worse from the time share people and there was nothing to fear. Maybe I look poor or something.???

Welsh Legend. You should be relatively free from the shark attack because of your late arrival time. These hustlers at the airport are by law only Mexicans- and some very slick

ones at that-many make over 100 k a year. I hope they dont read this forum or they might

start that scratch card angle here. On another issue have you heard anything about the return of U.K. tourist to Vallarta. The big tour operators like first choice and thompsons quit coming here about two years ago and there are hopeful rumours that they are coming back this summer.

I wasn't aware that the British tour operators were not servicing Puerto vallarta but I've just checked it out & they seem to be pushing the Caribbean resorts like Cancun etc.

Some friends recommended Puerto Vallarta because they much preferred it to Cancun so I've exchanged 2 weeks of my Spanish timeshare for 2 weeks in the 'Mayan Sea Garden' Nuevo Vallarta through RCI, I also booked the flights myself so I haven't used a tour operator.

My Wife & I went to Las Vegas for our last 2 May vacations & we were confronted on many an occasion by timeshare thugs but as soon as they realised we were British they couldn't get rid of us quick enough, why I don't know, I wonder if it's the same in Puerto Vallarta????? I'll let you know.

Welsh Legend. Dont be offended because the timeshare guys drop you like a hot potatoe once they find out your from the u.k. The timeshare industry is well known by many people in the u.k. for its excesses and therefore the timeshare moguls expect a difficult time trying to sell to skeptics.

Also excluded from their "qualifications"

are French and Italian Canadians,Europeans,

Hindus,Indians,Africans and virtually anyone with an accent.Count yourself lucky!

A favourite name for the timeshare people in Europe is 'COCKROACH', they are very unpopular individuals that have ruined many holiday makers lives with their lies & threats & they have ultimately forced many innocent but naive people into thousands of pounds worth of debt.

Even though I don't know them personally I can honestly say that I don't like them, as far as I'm concerned they are just thugs who prey on the innocent & naive.

bump. We have had numerous complaints about the conduct of timeshare weasels at the airport. For the sake of first time visitors its important to warn them about the mis information and deceit that occurs daily at the Vallarta Airport.
