A few ?s

Thinking of booking the barcelo caribe.... We have been to playacar a bunch of times. We love it but it is getting too commercialized so thought we'd head further south.

Questions:

- how far is the barcelo from the airport?

- thinking about getting a private transfer.... Is it worth it?

- how far is it to town?

- any must-sees in the area (besides xel ha?)

Thanks!

I cannot answer your other questions, but in regards to the private transfer: it is well worth it. We tried it once because my wife is not the best traveler (air sick, car sick, etc.) and just loved it. Ever since that first try, we always use a private and when in Mexico, we only use USA Transfers.

The Barcelo complex is just under an hour's drive-time non-stop. A few minutes more-or-less, depending upon traffic.

Playa del Carmen's infamous 'Fifth Avenue' shopping area is 20 minutes north of the Barcelo. As an alternative, you could visit the Puerto Aventuras Marina area, which is just minutes away.

The Tulum Ruins and Akumal Beach are great places to explore, and are just south of the Barcelo.

Taxi cabs and Colectivos are readily available for your transportation needs.

Private ground transfers are indeed worth the few extra dollars cost, and you can even ask your driver to stop for refreshments along the way, or to stop at Walmart for you to pick-up any necessities or inexpensive water sport equipment like rafts or snorkel gear to avoid having to pack them in your luggage!

Happy Travels!

Is it worth a private transfer - you could save yourself 15 -60 minutes - will you miss prime beach time or a meal - your decision

You are also closer to some smaller towns like Akumal and Tulum and of course Puerto Adv.

Things to do - lots - see this thread

Ditto on USA Transfers. It just makes things so much easier and less of a hassle. We stay in Puerto Aventuras in a condo and really enjoy it there. An assortment of restaurants, the marina and Dolphin Discovery will give you plenty to do for a day away from the all-inclusive. Tulum makes for an interesting day trip. Have a great vacation.
