Ixtapa vs Zihuatanejo with kids

Needing some opinions from experienced TAs ...we are flying into Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo in March with our 4 kids, ages 7, 10, 15yrs. We have never been here before and have narrowed down two places to stay...The Palmetto Ixtapa condo next to Las Brisas or Casa Que Ve Al Mar above La Ropa beach.

We are typically Hawaii travellers but have been to PV with kids and Cancun/ Playa without.

Needing advice on beach safety at each area, and distance to restaurants/shopping with kids.

Would appreciate any good kid friendly restaurant recommendations too!

Gracias:)

Las Brisa is out on its own, with its own little beach but really not walking distance to anything. LaRopa is a sheltered bay with small waves on a 2km beach with 9 small restaurants and rentals of boogie boards etc available. Town is a 20 min walk with all kinds of shops and restaurants/people watching. Zih is safe to explore. I would think LaRopa superior for kids.

Cheers!

Zihua for sure...the kids can play in the sand and the water with no huge black flagged waves...

La Ropa for sure. Check out Villa Mexicana, nothing in front of you but beach. Steep walk from the condo you mentioned as with most other lodgings in the area.

Palmetto has no beach.

So if the kids are going to want to be on the beach all day, then Zihua for sure of those two properties.

The condo's at Casa Que Ve al Mar have a fantastic view of the bay and the infiniti pools are to die for. Easy walk down the hill to La Ropa at Elviria's and next door at Paty's. Walk back up is much tougher.

I can't offer advice because this will also be our first visit to the area but we have lots in common, travel wise. We live on Vancouver Island, have been to Cancun sans kids, took them to Bucerias, just outside of PV for two weeks, and we've travelled with them 2x to Maui. Our children are now 9 and 12 and we are headed to Zihua for our 2 wk spring break in March. We are renting a condo called Brazos Abiertos located in the La Ceiba complex on La Ropa. The lady we've been dealing with has been very helpful so far and we are hopeful we'll have a great stay. Enjoy!

I haven't stayed in Ixtapa yet but did rent and stay at the C/V/M complex and it's awesome. Loved the two pools and the views. Zip down the hill and you are in the beach in about 5 minutes or so. Great food choices and lots of playing area for the kids. Food is reasonable and for buying food and drinks at Paty's or Elivra's there is no charge for using their beach chairs etc...

The taxi stand is very close to Paty's and Elivira's so if you don't want to walk that steep hill back they are easy enough to snag. Depending on how much we drank or how tired we were from playing we might or might not walk back :)

Getting to town is very easy via bus from Laropa area also and cheap.

come on down and enjoy the area.

Thanks everyone, you guys are awesome! Looks like Zihuatanejo is the better place to be with kids...

Thanks for the tips on La Ropa Maryann H....think we will be taking the taxis back up the hill, lol. Have fun TCMama...bet you are looking forward escaping BC's chilly weather as much as we are;)
